Moon sign calculator
What's your Moon sign? See what you need to feel safe.
Uses your city's historic time zone. Nothing is sent until you save.
The Moon changes every two and a half days
That is why the birth time matters. Enter the date, time and place, and the exact Moon degree is calculated from the IANA time zone in force that day.
Your Moon sign describes your emotional weather: what settles you, what you need when the day has been too much, and the private version of you that only close people meet. It changes sign every two and a half days, so the birth time and place matter.
How this is calculated
The position
The Moon's position is calculated for the exact minute and place of birth, using the apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude of date.
The zodiac
The result is mapped onto the tropical zodiac, and the calculation uses the exact degree and minute inside the sign. The full reading shows it, so you can see how close it sits to the next sign.
The clock
The time zone comes from the city's IANA zone, including the historic offset that was in force on that date. A birth time that fell inside a daylight saving change is moved to the first real time after the gap, and the result says so.
Questions
How do I find my moon sign?
Enter your birth date, time and place in the calculator above. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days, so the date does most of the work, but the time and place settle the degree and the sign boundary.
What if I do not know my birth time?
You can still use a noon chart. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a noon Moon may be a few degrees off, and near a sign boundary it can change sign. The result states clearly that the time is approximate.
Why does my Moon sign differ from another site?
Most differences come from the birth time zone, not the astronomy. A city entered in the wrong zone, or a daylight saving offset applied by hand, can move the Moon by a whole sign. This calculator uses the IANA zone for the birth date.
Does the Moon sign change every month?
No. The Moon travels through all twelve signs in about 27.3 days, so it spends roughly two and a half days in each sign. That is why two people born on the same day can have different Moon signs.
Is the Moon sign more important than the Sun sign?
Neither is more important. The Sun sign is the identity you grow into; the Moon sign is the need you return to. Read them together rather than ranking them.
